Losing Weight with Healthy Food: You Are What You Eat!

By Abel Ferguson

You've most likely heard that you are a reflection of what you eat. Maybe you simply supposed people used this phrase to promote healthy eating but, really, you are what you eat. When you enjoy a tuna sandwich, your body digests the amino acids from the tuna and uses it to grow new cells and build muscle. Your physical appearance reflects your diet, and when you consume junk food you will see that your complexion looks worse and you appear bigger than you do when you eat healthier foods. So, diet is the first place to begin when you wish to get rid of excess pounds. There's no need to spend your time exercising a lot if you have poor eating habits. It's important that you add whole and hearty food in your diet.

So, what should you include in your healthy diet that will accelerate weight loss? You want to bring down calories so you will lose weight, but you don't want to starve yourself so much that you start to overeat junk food. It's a good idea to gradually alter your eating habits by slowly adding healthy food and decreasing the number of calories taken in. Begin to slowly adjust your meals and snacks so that you are consuming more healthily. The most essential thing to include in your diet is protein. Your body needs protein to repair cells and build muscle, among other things. It is not hard to get adequate protein by adding foods such as beef, chicken, pork, eggs, and soy products to your diet.

Carbohydrates are the next most essential nutrient you must have in your diet. You need to be careful, however, not to consume a lot of carbohydrates any any unused energy created by them simply gets stored as fat. Go for foods like whole grain bread and brown rice for your carbohydrate requirements. Finally, you must add fats. Surprisingly, your body requires fats in your diet even when you're attempting to shed off some pounds. Eat foods which have good fat including nuts and salmon. Also consume a great deal of fresh greens and fruits so that your body receives all the vitamins and minerals it should have.

Also pay attention to foods you must avoid. Obviously, you want to cut down as much junk food as you can and you should try to eat healthy cuts of meat. Avoid refined carbs such as white bread and pasta and replace them with whole grain choices. Try to avoid alcohol if you can because it has no beneficial value for weight loss.

So now you're aware of what you have to have in your diet and what to avoid. Look at your normal eating habits and come up with some ways to make your meals more nutritious. If you're having issues with portion size try eating 5 or 6 small meals per day because your stomach will get smaller, meaning you will feel fuller faster and therefore consume less food.
